Ian offers art tuition on a one-to-one basis from his inspirational studio amongst the rocks at Corbière, on the stunning west coast of Jersey.

Ian has many years experience inspiring creativity in all ages and is passionate about the value of art in society and within the community. Ian has undertaken many art projects with children and young people in and out of schools in Jersey, Devon, Sri Lanka and Cyprus. He has led creative workshops for adults of all abilities and experience, organised community art events and given tutorial sessions to develop drawing and painting skills with particular emphasis on the use of watercolour.

Ian has developed a particular style and technique in his own work for which he has become well known. His method of teaching is centred around developing a right brained shift, away from the controlling, preconceived, left brained approach (which can lead to frustration), to a more intuitive way of seeing, which brings out the personal style of the individual. A short meditation, to encourage the brain shift from left to right, is the starting point of all Ian’s tutorial sessions. In the warmer months, sessions could involve drawing and painting outside in the landscape.

The cost of a one-to-one tutorial is £50 per hour in a two hourly session. This can be booked as an individual session, on a pay-as-you-go basis, or as a course of 4 sessions payable in advance, with a 5th session free of charge.

All sessions are available to book in one of two slots, on any day of the week, including Saturday & Sunday, from 9.30 to 11.30 or from 11.30 to 1.30. It is possible to book consecutive slots making a 4 hour session. Booking is by email to or via the contact page of this website.

Payment for tutorial sessions is by cash or cheque, by bank transfer, or credit card via PayPal. The cost includes materials and equipment available in the studio, although students should have their own sketch book and are welcome to bring their own materials.

If you are interested in trying a tutorial session, get in touch to fix a time to come to the studio for a short chat with Ian and bring a few examples of your work. No charge and no obligation. This will help Ian to structure tutorial sessions for you personally, so you get the most out of them.

Why not give one or more tutorial sessions to someone as a gift voucher? Ian can personalise a voucher for you to give as a unique gift for a special occasion. Dates can be left open on the voucher to be arranged by the recipient. Vouchers can be sent by printable email or by post as a card. Contact Ian by email to with your gift voucher enquiry.
